Gary Nelson, Ph.D, Director Dr. Nelson is a Professor at the UNC-CH School of Social Work, Associate Director for Program Development and Training with the School's Jordan Institute for Families, and Director of The Middle Space. Since 1986 Dr. Nelson has taught and written on social policy, management, community engagement, and more recently on social entrepreneurship and sustainable development. Dr. Nelson has also been instrumental in designing an Integrative Leadership Program that has been delivered to audiences such as World Bank, Habitat for Humanity International, and the United Nations Development Program. His commitment to public engagement has led to the creation of numerous programs that integrate the University's three missions of research, teaching (learning), and service (engagement) to foster results that are just and fair for all. The programs are designed to improve the performance of public, private, and nonprofit organizations.
